An ex-boyfriend shot a mother and daughter in Evansville in the Tri-State Area this past Friday evening on May 18. Tri-State Home Page published the initial story as well as updates.
The incident occurred this past Friday evening in the 1000 block of West Delaware Street in Evansville. The Evansville Police Department responded to calls of a shooting. The suspected shooter approached a mother and daughter.
He shot both the mother and daughter before a different armed individual, a neighbor, was able to confront the shooter. Neither one of the daughter’s two children, both of whom were in the backseat of the vehicle, were harmed.
The suspect as well as the armed neighbor got into a shootout. Evansville Police arrived. They arrested the shooter without incident. The shooter has been identified as 56-year-old Robert Ballard Jr. Police have confirmed that Ballard Jr. had been in a relationship with the mother.
On Saturday, May 19, Vanderburgh County Coroner, Steve Lockyear, released a statement that said 38-year-old Amanda Weir, who had been shot during the incident, had succumbed to her wounds.
Weir died at 11:30 am at Deaconess Hospital. Lockyear said that an autopsy is pending. Also on Saturday, Evansville Police charged Ballad Jr on multiple accounts.
The Evansville Police Department said they will provide updates when possible.
