A gas station owner in Lake County, Florida, thwarted a credit card number robber this past Saturday afternoon on Nov. 18. Fox 35 WOFL in Florida published a story about the heroic act.
The incident occurred at a gas station located just off County Road 48 in Yalaha. The business owner, Jaykumar Patel, noticed an error flash onto his register. He peaked outside and saw a truck had parked at station 3.
Patel said that he became suspicious because it wasn’t the first time someone had been messing with the security seal on his pumps. Per Patel, someone had been messing with the security seals for the past three weeks.
After Patel saw the wires from the open pump going directly into the car, he knew what was happening. Patel said, “I figured out that he’s trying to get credit card numbers, so I kick on his door. So, he tried to scare me, so I went back, and I pulled the gun out from my pocket and just pointed it on him.”
The credit card numbers robber backed up the truck. The suspect then peeled out. Although the suspect peeled out, Patel got the license plate number. He immediately called Lake County deputies.
A Howey in the Hills police officer stopped the truck about 8 miles from Patel’s gas station. Lake County deputies said that the suspect is 43-year-old Lazaro Castro.
Castro has been charged with the use of a scanning device to defraud. Per police, Castro was on probation for was on probation out of Orange County for similar charges.
