A homeowner in Edgewater, Florida, fired shots into a bush after receiving word of a break-in on Tuesday, Sep. 11. Click Orlando published a story about the incident on their site.
The shooting happened at around 8:00 a.m. in the 2900 block of India Palm Drive. The residence is near Indian River Elementary and Edgewater Elementary schools. The fired shots prompted a school lockdown.
Per Edgewater Police Captain Joe Mahoney, a neighbor called the homeowner to tell her that someone had just tried to break into her home. The homeowner rushed to her residence. While inspecting the backyard, the victim saw a few bushes move. She then fired her weapon twice into the bushes.
Mahoney said that the neighbor had told the victim that a tall man wearing a black shirt and dark jeans had broken the sliding glass door to the victim’s home. After breaking the door, the suspect retreated to the passenger side of a Chevrolet Silverado and left.
The homeowner’s son, Landris Johnson, said, “My mom is perfectly fine. Someone tried to break into her house, but she’s fine. She let off a couple of shots just for her own protection.”
Johnson’s a rapper and he believes that the suspects targeted his mother because they believe he has money. “I think maybe it’s social media. Maybe they think my mom got money, maybe it’s the jewelry, I have no idea. But I just hope they don’t try it again,” Johnson said.
After a while, authorities lifted the school lockdown.
