An attempted robbery led to shots being fired on the Hawaiian island of Maui on Thursday, July 19. Star Advertiser published a story about the incident on their site, StarAdvertiser.com.
The incident occurred at around 10:35 pm Hawaii time at a Haiku residence. Three male intruders wearing hooded sweat shirts illegally entered the residence. One of the intruders brandished a shiny handgun.
They then forced one of the three victims into a bathroom. While doing so, a second victim retrieved an AR-15 assault rifle. The victim began firing at the three intruders, who fled from the residence. As they fled, the suspects returned fire.
Police questioned the victims. They told Hawaii Police that they believe the intruders left the residence with around $3,000 in cash. Witnesses said that they saw the suspects drive away in a black vehicle towards Hana on Hana Highway.
Police recovered a firearm at the scene.
They only described two of the three assailants. One is around 5’ 8” inches tall. He appeared to weigh around 180 lbs. The other suspect also appeared to weigh around 180 lbs. He appeared slightly taller than the other suspect, around 5’ 11”.
Both suspects had short black hair. Both were described as being between 20 to 30 years old.
