An attempted robber was fatally shot this past Christmas Eve in Chicago, Illinois. The incident occurred this past Sunday on Dec. 24. The Chicago Sun-Times published a story about the incident on their website.
Per Chicago Police, the incident happened at around 6:15 pm ET in the 1200 Block of South Jefferson. The victim, identified as being 31-years-old, left a store in the South Loop when an attempted robber pulled out a gun and demanded money.
While the suspect stole the victim’s property, police said that the victim shot the suspect in the chest.
Emergency Services transported the victim to Stroger Hospital. On Monday, Dec. 25, the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office said that the victim had died at 11:37 pm on Dec. 24. The medical examiner’s office was supposed to perform an autopsy on Tuesday, Dec. 26.
Chicago Police identified the deceased suspect as 37-year-old Corey Haggard. Haggard resided in the Lawndale neighborhood on the Southwest Side.
The victim does have a permit to carry a concealed firearm.
