A victim and suspect are in the hospital after a late Friday night shootout. Local KSN TV in Wichita, Kansas, published a story about the shootout on their site.
Wichita Police said that the shootout occurred around 10:00 pm this past Friday night on June 9. The shootout happened at Ruben’s Mexican Grill in the 900 block of West Douglas Ave.
An unnamed 26-year-old male suspect entered Ruben’s Mexican Grill. He was armed with a gun. The suspect demanded money. One of the restaurant’s employees also had a firearm. The employee and suspect exchanged gunfire. Both the victim and the suspect were shot.
The suspect fled. Later, police responded to a call about another shooting at the 1000 block of East 8th Street North. There, police found the 26-year-old suffering from a gunshot wound.
Emergency services transported both the victim and the suspect to a hospital. The Wichita Police Department said that the victim is in critical condition while the suspect is in serious condition.
WPD stated that the suspect will be interviewed and placed under arrest once he is released from the hospital.
Randy Hare, a frequent visitor to Ruben’s Mexican Grill, expressed dismay at the shooting. “I was shocked,” Hare said. “I wanted to come up here and say a prayer on that. I called up here to see if I can get any information.”
Hare also said that he’s known Ruben and Ruben’s family for over 20 years. Wichita Police did not release the name of the suspect.
