A woman shot an attempted carjacker in the face on the Fourth of July as the carjacker attempted to drive off with the woman and her two kids still in the vehicle. FOX News 4 in Dallas, Texas, published a story about the incident.
The carjacking occurred at around 10:00 pm on July 4 at a Shell Gas Station along Interstate 35 near Camp Wisdom Road. While outside of her car, the woman saw the male suspect enter her vehicle on the driver side.
At the time, both of her children, a 2-year-old son and a 4-year-old son, were in the car. The woman, identified as Michelle Booker-Hicks, jumped into the back seat.
She told the man to leave her vehicle. When he refused, she reached over and into her glove compartment. She then pulled out her firearm and shot the man once in the face.
The mother said, “I proceeded to jump in my backseat and told the gentleman to stop, to get out the car. He would not get out of the car. He turned around and looked at me. I reached over the armrest to get my glove compartment and that’s when I fired at him once I got the gun from my glove compartment.”
The suspect ran the car off the road. He hit a fence. Authorities arrived and took the carjacking suspect to a hospital.
“I’m not a killer but I do believe in defending what’s mine,” she said. “I hope that woke him up.”
Dallas Police identified the suspect as 36-years-old Rickey Wright. Wright will likely face kidnapping, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, and carjacking charges.
Michelle and her two kids were unharmed.
